Fear the Brood!
It’s time for an update since my announcement of impending parenthood back in April!
The broodling arrived early November, at 20-in (50.8 cm) long and a hefty weight of 8 lbs 9.7 oz (3.9 kg), and his name is Harley. He has a middle name of “Hiccup,” because that’s all he’s been doing since 10 weeks in the womb. Not consistently, of course, but at least once per day he’ll have an episode of cute-sounding-but-probably-bothersome hiccup noises.
All those people who’ve told me that being a parent means a lack of sleep, frazzled nerves, and non-stop frenetic activity were damn right. There’s no set routine for taking care of him, and right when you think you’ve got one going, it changes.
But there are moments when it all seems worth it. Hopefully they’ll come more often.
I can say this for sure: the kid’s got lungs. He cries like he’s being murdered when I don’t feed him fast enough, when I change his diaper, and when he has gas in his tummy. The gas bit is understandable, because that’s simply not fun, but when I’m slow on the bottle? Geez, talk about impatience.
Must take after his father.
